Rwanda Information

Rwanda does not fit the accepted stereotype for African countries. This is true in both climate and terrain.

Although located just south of the equator, the climate of Rwanda is very mild-- rarely dropping below 50 F (10 C) (except at the very highest elevations) or rising above 85 F (30 C). The average daytime temperature is a comfortable 70-75 F (20-25 C).

The terrain is mostly mountainous ranging from 5,000 ft. to 14,782 ft. on Mt. Karisimbi.

The total land area is 26,338 sq. km which is about twice the size of New Jersey. Yet it contains a population of over 8 million people -- the most densely populated country in Africa.

The official languages are Kinyarwanda, French, and English (recently added.)
